You support (or are ready to support) local farmers or look for sustainably grown, organic, or regeneratively farmed food.
You’re looking for practical, sustainable habits that fit your busy life and empower you to shop, cook, and live with intention.
You’re tired of wasting food and money and are ready for a kitchen system that keeps you organized and efficient.
You crave a purposeful life filled with meaningful actions, healthier choices, and the knowledge that you’re making a real difference.
This is the space dedicated for cross-pollination in the hive. Connect with like-minded individuals to share ideas, seek advice, discover recommendations for regenerative agriculture brands and farm-to-table restaurants in your area, and coordinate times to come together in your region to cook, meal plan, and shop the local farmers market .... the possibilities are endless. This is available 24/7. Plus if you have time, stay after the monthly live session to connect on zoom in The HIVE.
Cook along live with me and other passionate home cooks throughout the year. These sessions are designed to build community, learn from one another, and keep growing our cooking repertoire. Together, we’ll create simple, sustainable meals that are kind to your wallet and the planet. All sessions are recorded and available to Kitchen Activist Collective members inside the membership portal.
Engage directly with pioneers in sustainable food practices. Imagine a live session from a biodynamic wine shop, chocolate shop, or with a dry farmer or expert cook where you can interact and ask questions in real time. Each season we will be joined by a professional chefs, cookbook authors, and passionate home cooks. If you can't make it and have a burning question, send in your question and watch the recording. All conversations will be recorded and available to watch/listen by KAC members.
Receive curated meal plans in your inbox EACH WEEK, with links to recipes and ideas to minimize waste and maximize nutrition whether you cook for one or six. The goal is to make sustainable eating effortless. Recipes will give options for plant-based and animal proteins variations.
Kitchen organization is an environmental action. When our kitchens are organized, we waste less food, and cook more! These seasonal organization parties will offer you the tips and the motivation you need to create a system that works to keep your kitchen a powerful force for change. Plus, an organized kitchen brings more joy and ease (who doesn't love an alphabetized spice drawer).

Hi, I’m Florencia.
I started the Kitchen Activist Collective because I believe change begins at the kitchen table. After years of researching, writing, and speaking about the environmental impact of our food system, I realized the most powerful shifts start with what we choose to cook—and how we cook it.
I'm the author of Eat Less Water, named a Best Book by Kirkus Reviews, and my upcoming book, The Kitchen Activist, expands on the idea that real environmental change can begin in the heart of our homes. I’ve led pesticide-free school campaigns, launched the Kitchen Activist podcast, and shared this work on NPR, CBS, and KCRW’s Good Food. Through it all, one truth keeps rising: the kitchen is a climate solution hiding in plain sight.
The Kitchen Activist Collective is my way of turning knowledge into action—and doing it with a community of people (like you!) who care deeply about sustainability, justice, and the health of our families and planet.
I’m also a mom of three, splitting time between California’s agricultural coast and New Mexico’s high desert. I know firsthand that sustainable living has to work in real life—and I’m here to help make it doable and joyful.
There is power in the collective!

You feel anxious about the state of the environment and want to do something tangible to create a better future for your kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids, and the planet.
After this conversation, you’ll never think of your margarita the same way again. Join us for a lively and eye-opening discussion with Dr. Adolfo Murillo, founder of an organic tequila farm dedicated to sustainable practices. We’ll explore how he uses cattle for natural weed abatement, how he combats dropping water tables with soil-building dry farming methods, and the harsh realities of industrial tequila production—where large brands lease land until wells run dry, deplete the soil, and move on. Of course, no conversation with Dr. Murillo would be complete without a masterclass in crafting the perfect margarita—just in time for Cinco de Mayo.
Soil, Water, and the Perfect Margarita
Join Florencia Ramirez—author of Eat Less Water and The Kitchen Activist—and her husband Michael for a live cooking demonstration and conversation-in-action. Together, they’ll guide you through making pozole soup (vegetarian and animal-protein versions) and fresh sopapillas—dishes perfect for any time of year, especially for hosting. As they cook, they’ll share how they practice Kitchen Activism at home, offering a real-life look at what it means to cook with purpose and partnership. All Kitchen Activist members will receive the recipes and shopping ideas in advance.
Kitchen Activism in Action and the Recipes That Bring It to Life
This June, we’re heading to the lush rainforest of O‘ahu—without leaving your kitchen. Join Katie Metzger, beekeeper and founder of Hanai Hives, for a virtual tour of her apiary nestled on a slice of native Hawaiian forest. Katie will share what it takes to care for bees in a changing climate, why supporting local honey is an act of environmental justice, and how we can all become better allies to pollinators—no matter where we live.

Join us for a thought-provoking conversation with a team member/owner of Azure Standard, a leader in organic and regenerative food sourcing. We’ll explore how their unique distribution model supports small farmers, promotes soil health, and provides access to high-quality, non-GMO pantry staples. Learn how intentional food sourcing can strengthen local food systems, reduce waste, and align your shopping habits with your values. We’ll also discuss how you can find an Azure Standard pickup location near you—or even start one in your community—making sustainable, bulk shopping more accessible than ever.
