Popcorn and Water

Jul 12, 2012

Schools out, kids are home and they want to eat. I have hosted six kids above my own three for sleepovers and playdates this week alone. That is a lot of hungry kids. My snack of choice for kids is popcorn. It is almost always a hit with kids. It is healthy. It is cheap. It is easy. And I control the ingredients.

I am not speaking of the microwave variety. Too many preservatives, too much butter and most brands use non-organic corn. I use an air popper for my popcorn. I buy my organic popcorn bulk and keep in a mason jar (I love jars) on the counter top next to the popper. Organic popcorn tells me that the corn is non-GMO, used no synthetic fertilizers or chemicals–all better for water. I melt one tablespoon of Organic Valley organic pasture butter per large bowl of popcorn. I mix the butter into the popped corn and add a few shakes of salt and the snack is served.
